We watched a wonderful theater presentation this morning. It was a single presenter and she was demonstrating different masks to the children. A reminder to those moving on to District Heritage Fair that I need the children's permission forms tomorrow. Today we spent some time this morning choosing our track and field events for next week. Please ask your child to let you know what events they have signed up for. Thank you to those who continue to add to our "Movies and Munchies" basket. The fun fair is still looking for volunteers to help out that evening. Also, if you have any stuffed animals that could be contributed to the "Panda Pitch" game they would be appreciated. We had a really fun afternoon in our clan groups today. We all took part in a jump rope for heart activity and went through six skipping stations. The children had a lot of fun. Thank you to those who have donated to our "Movies and Munchies" basket for the school basket raffle. The items can come in until May 5th. Also, if you are able please sign up for a shift at the fun fair. The sign up sheet is on the PAC board by the library. We had a very exciting day in the classroom today. We helped to take care of a baby duck that hatched last night in our little buddies classroom. It was pretty weak so we spent time today keeping it warm. It is doing much better and we hope to see even more improvement tomorrow. Tomorrow is our Jump Rope for Heart afternoon. Wow the last two days have been so busy! The Heritage Fair yesterday was amazing. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come. The children loved being able to show off all of their hard work. Today we had a lesson with Mrs. Tomm on communication. We talked about how things like proximity and tone can affect our communication. This afternoon the grade sevens put on a wonderful band concert for the school. The Fun Fair is coming up on May 7th. All classes will be creating a basket to raffle off. Our theme this year is "Movies and Munchies." If you are able to donate something to this basket it would be greatly appreciated. We had a wonderful time at 4 Cats Art Studio today! The children have created some AMAZING paintings. They are at the studio to dry and they will contact me when they are ready to be picked up. I am emailing pictures out to show you what they have done (if you don't receive an email it is because your child has asked that it remain a surprise). Tuesday will be our school Heritage Fair. All project must be brought into the school on Tuesday morning. If you would like to come and view your child's project they will be available for viewing on Tuesday from 1:15 - 2:15. Congratulations to the grade 3/4 and grade 5 Battle of the Books teams who took part in the zone competition today. The 3/4 team placed third and the grade 5 team placed first! Tomorrow we are heading to 4 Cats for our Emily Carr field trip. Please make sure that your child is in clothes appropriate for art, we will be using paint. Today we started an independent novel study. Each child has picked a novel that they will be reading for this assignment. They are able to use these novels as their home reading books for the next few weeks as they have all shown them to me to make sure that they are at a level they should be okay with. For any reason if your child is struggling with the novel please let me know as soon as possible. We had a lot of fun this afternoon taking part in a track and field clinic. A couple of members of the track and field club came to the school to work with the children on shot put and high jump skills. They all seemed to have a good time. We had a work block day in the classroom today. The children got work done but were a little chatty. Once they have completed their heritage fair projects they can bring them into the classroom and leave them here for safe keeping for the school fair on Tuesday. Today as a school we ran the Terry Fox Run. Terry Fox started his run April 12 so we ran today. As a school we were able to raise over $970! The children did a lot of work on their Heritage Fair projects today. There will be more class time available on Monday for those who need it. We spent some time this afternoon learning about the life of the artist Emily Carr. The children were using great words to describe her art work. Tomorrow we are taking part in a school wide Terry Fox run. Please if you are able send $2 with your child to send to the Terry Fox Foundation. Tomorrow and Monday I will be giving the children class time work on putting together their heritage fair back boards. Please make sure that your child comes with what they will need. Today I gave the children a quick lesson in how to use the citation builder in Worldbook. This will help them to create their bibliography for their Heritage Fair project. Tomorrow we will be working on Art Cards. This is a fundraiser where the children create an image to be made into a card. I have asked the children to ask at home and see what kind of card their parent would like them to create. Some might want a birthday theme, or a thank you card. Please let your child know what you would like if you have a preference. We had a lot of fun today. We took our little buddies out for an Easter Egg hunt and saw the Easter Bunny running around the field. We also finished working on our zebra eyes in fine arts. A reminder that there is no school tomorrow or Monday due to the Easter long weekend. Homework this weekend is working on Heritage Fair projects. There are two notices coming home today.
