The children all really seemed to enjoy the Terry Fox run today.  We had a great conversation afterwards too about what they were thinking and feeling about while they were running today.  On Monday I will be posting a sign up sheet for parent teacher interviews.  Please make sure that you sign up for a spot.  Homework this weekend:

Thursday

The children and I have taken advantage of the beautiful weather over the last couple of days and have taken our quiet reading books outside to enjoy reading in the sunshine, while it was here.  Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day (a day where all people stand in unity to remember those affect by residential schools) as well as the Terry Fox run at the school at 11am.  Please feel free to join us for the run if you would like.  Homework tonight:

Tuesday

Today we read the book, Nerdy Birdy Tweets and started to talk about safe online practices.  The children also logged into their gedu accounts.  These are to be used for research and are accounts that they are able to access from home.  Homework tonight:

 - Terry Fox run Friday, permission slips to be returned as well as a $2 for Terry if possible
 - school pictures on Thursday.   Retakes will take place on November 1

Monday

Today the children started two new independent activities in the classroom.  Fiction Cards, reading the fantasy genre and Language Cards which are starting with a Grammar Review.  Homework tonight:

Wednesday

Tomorrow our class will be celebrating the International Day of Peace.  We will be taking part in a celebration with all of the other Montessori classes.  We will also be doing an activity tomorrow that will use paint so please encourage your child to not wear their favourite clothes to school tomorrow.

Monday

Today we had a chat in the classroom about gossip.  Please have a conversation with your child about how this can be hurtful to others.  We are also celebrating the International Day of Peace on Thursday and will be discussing Peace in the classroom throughout the week.

Friday

Today the remainder of the children shared their Ability Bags with the class.  This has been a wonderful way for them to get to know each other.  I loved the symbols that many of them chose to represent their abilities.  We met our little buddies today and they were so kind to them!  We also had our first fire drill today!  Busy day!  Homework this weekend is only home reading and making sure all verification/media forms are returned to the school.  Have a great weekend!

Thursday

Today we all went down to the gym to watch a presentation on magic and motivation.  Please ask your child to tell you about the performance.  We also got outside in the afternoon to review the school boundary lines in preparation for our first buddy day tomorrow.  Homework tonight:

We had another great day in the classroom today.  The children are all starting to remember the expected behaviours in the classroom.  Tomorrow they will have gym for the first time and need to remember to bring a change of gym strip and running shoes.  Homework tonight:

Welcome Back!

Welcome back!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer.  I am so excited for the school year!  I will try to keep the blog updated daily this year.  Today we talked for a while about words.  We read the book, My Mouth is a Volcano! and did an activity with toothpaste.  We talked about how words can easily come out of your mouth (like toothpaste out of the tube) but like toothpaste, they are really hard to put back in.  A classroom newsletter should be coming home today.  Thank you to those who have sent in their school supply fees and to those who haven't please do so as soon as possible.  We are not using workbooks this year so you don't need to pay the $5 cost for that.  We have not received our agenda's yet, however once those come home if you could please write down your email.
