Today we had clan groups where we made ornaments for PIT Stop and Seniors in our community.  We completed our spelling dictations and our Big 5 this morning.  We created a journal entry about our experience at 4Cats yesterday.  Homework this weekend:

Thursday

We went to 4Cats today and had a wonderful time!  We made an Emily Carr inspired painting.  We learned how to use different brushes, with different techniques to create movement in our paintings.  The students really enjoyed learning how to use the fan brush.  We continued to work on our lapbooks today.  Homework tonight:

Wednesday November 27

In gym we continued on with our floor hockey unit.  A reminder that if your child has long hair it should be pulled back on gym days.  We worked with a communication board with a partner today.  The main character in Out Of My Mind has to communicate in this way and today the students tried it out.  We continued to work with our Lapbooks.  Homework tonight:

Tuesday November 26th

We did more drama games this afternoon.  Please have your child tell you about one of them.  We had a class meeting today to discuss many things.  One of them was our class Kindness Calendar.  Please check your emails parents for more information about this.  We worked some more on our Canada Lapbooks today.  Homework tonight:

Monday November 25

Today we had Ms. Runnalls come in and do drama games with us.  We completed a comprehension cliffhanger in the morning.  This is where I read the start of a story to them, and they have to write what they think the ending could be.  The Year 6 students attended a presentation on vaping today as well.  Homework tonight:

Friday

Today we worked with our little buddies and helped them build paper mache bear dens.  We completed our spelling dictation and Big 5 this morning.  We had a work block and continued to work on our lapbooks.  We also did the Bones dance on GoNoodle.  Homework this weekend:

Thursday

There is a new permission slip coming home as I could not get enough drivers.  Please sign and return to the school.  In French today the year 5 and 6 students learned the verb avoir.  We worked on our Typing Pal today.  Remind your child if they are typing at home to try and keep their fingers on the home row.  Homework today:

Today we started a new lesson in math.  The year sixes are working with multiples, the fives are looking at place value and the fours are looking at Venn Diagrams.  We started working with the Skeletal System today.  We wrote a story today using story starter dice.  Homework tonight:

Friday November 8th

Today was a busy day!  In the morning we completed our Big 5 math, we are looking at place value right now.  We also had our Remembrance Day assembly today where the year 6's did an amazing job with their recitation of In Flanders Fields.  The year 6's also made War Time Cake for the class today.  This has become a tradition for the older students and this year they did a wonderful job.  I had print out copies of the recipes available for those who wanted it and I also posted a copy on the blog.  The children presented their Peace Keeper posters today and did a great job with this.  I was impressed with how well they knew their topic and their research.  Homework this weekend:

War Time Cake

War Time Cake

During wartime, the people back home didn’t always have the cooking supplies they would have liked. Recipes with little or no sugar, eggs, and milk were used so there would be more for the soldiers overseas. Some supplies were "rationed"—only so much per family. A family might have shared its sugar ration to make this No-Milk-No-Egg chocolate cake—mixed and baked in the same pan.
Ask an adult to pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a 20 cm (8-inch) square pan put:

• 375 ml (1 ½ cups) all purpose flour
• 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of baking powder
• 250 ml (1 cup) of granulated sugar
• 2.5 ml (½ teaspoon) of cinnamon
• 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of baking soda
• 2.5 ml (½ teaspoon) of salt
• 45 ml (3 tablespoons) of cocoa powder (not instant cocoa drink mix)

Add to the pan:

• 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of vanilla extract
• 15 ml (1 tablespoon) of white vinegar
• 75 ml (5 tablespoons) of vegetable oil
• 250 ml (1 cup) of lukewarm water

Mix everything together with a fork and bake for 30 minutes or until done.

Thursday Nov. 7th

We had our first skating field trip of the year today.  The children were amazing on the bus and were very respectful and appreciate to our driver.  They carried on working on finishing up their Peace Keeper projects and independent work today.  They started their new health unit in their health class today as well.  Homework tonight:

 - Remembrance Day assembly tomorrow (poppy donation if you wanted to make one)
 - presenting their Peace Keeper posters to the class tomorrow.  Please make sure this is complete if it is not already.

Wednesday Nov. 6th

Today we wrote out the good copies of our school wide write.  In gym today we played a game where you have to move the ball underneath you while you are in plank position.  Tomorrow the children will be starting a new health unit, information should have been brought home to you last week on a green notice by your child.  Homework:

There has been a last minute change in skating venue for Thursday.  I have sent home new permission slips to be signed.  Please return these ASAP.  Everyone has already paid for this trip so please do not send in any money.  Today the children worked really hard on their Peace Keeper projects.  They also started the rough copy of a school wide write on the topic, A Special Day.  Homework tonight:

I can't believe it is November already!  Today we finished our microscope slide activity.  We were introduced to the life and art of Emily Carr.  We completed our weekly spelling dictation.  Homework this weekend:
