Friday!!!

What a chatty group today, you could tell it was Friday! No homework for the weekend other than home reading and any unfinished work that they may need to catch up. There is no school on Monday as it is a professional development day. If there are any outstanding Entertainment Books out there they need to be turned in by Tuesday - it will be the last day volunteers will be collecting them. Have a great weekend!

Tuesday September 21, 2010

Today was International Peace Day and our class led the other Montessori classes in celebrating this this morning. The students all created pinwheels and wished for peace in a variety of countries around the world. We also had a practise lock down drill this afternoon. They all did a good job of this. Homework tonight:

- home reading
- study spelling
- math (most children have some due to the lock down drill taking up time in the afternoon)
- Scholastic due Friday
- Entertainment books - our class has currently sold the most and if this keeps up our students win a pizza party!
- health - pictures complete if not already
- picture day tomorrow, please try to avoid wearing white and green, it causes problems with the background

Have a great night!

Crazy Monday!

What a crazy day it was today!!! We have a set schedule in place now and it started this morning, so first thing at 8:30 this morning the children were off running to band and fine arts, I don't think we stopped after that! I did not have a chance to help some students run off projects today, but not to worry I will do so tomorrow. We had a nice talk today about some things about school that are making us anxious. I let them know that they are all doing a WONDERFUL job getting settled into the school year and that if they are worried about something that coming and talking with me can usually settle the problem. Homework tonight:

- home reading (we went to the library to sign out books today - we have one library time booked so far - on Mondays, but I would rather use this block for research with Ms. Carter so I am going to try to book another day for book exchanges - perhaps Thursday???).
- study spelling
- French
- Health

Schedule update:
- band/fine arts - first thing Monday and Thursday morning
- P.E. - Monday and Thursday afternoon
- Library - Monday (and hopefully Thursday)
- Computer Lab (Thursday - more often if I can book other lab time if we need it)

- French

Have a great weekend!

Looking for items

I just thought I would add a post on here to let you know of some items I am looking for in the classroom this year. Sometimes people have things around the house that they no longer need/want and if anyone has any of the following items and can donate them, they would be greatly appreciated!

- boggle game
- old blender or food processor (I want to do some paper making this year. The blades don't need to be sharp, it just has to blend wet paper)
- set of mixing bowls
- cookie sheets
- mixing spoons, spatulas, etc.
- hand blender

It is such a change having a bigger group of boys in the class this year. When we have a French sing off you can actually hear the boys group! The children seem to be having a lot of fun with the French songs we have been learning in the last week (numbers, colours, days of the week, months of the year), have them sing them for you at home! Homework tonight:

- home reading (a reminder that we will get library time next week)
- study spelling (our first dictation (test) will be tomorrow)
- math - any unfinished math from the week needs to be finished as we will be moving on tomorrow
- French - sheet due Monday
- W.I.T.W./Canadian Reader - article due tomorrow (Tamil Migrants/Governor General)

Have a great night!

Tuesday September 14, 2010

I placed the students into assigned groups today. It has really seemed to make a difference on the noise level in the room! We had a great day today with our first real work blocks of the year. All the students seemed to do really well with organizing their day, there were not many that needed my help, congratulations Year Fours! Homework today:

- home reading (we should be getting our first library time next week)
- study spelling
- open house tonight at 6:30 (I will be giving a small talk to start the night, it would be great if you are a Year Four parent to attend - not long, only 10 min. or so)
- gym strip
- 5's - Math if not finished

Have a wonderful night, I hope to see some of you at the Open House tonight.
