Wednesday

We had a wonderful day in the classroom today. We had a lot of fun making pumpkins with our buddies and we really enjoyed having the grade 4/5 class come and watch a movie with us in the afternoon. Tuesday

We continued to work on editing the story that we wrote last week. We also looked at the different ways to say good bye in French today. A reminder that we will be watching a movie for Halloween tomorrow and that each child should bring in their own snack if they would like one. Also, no costumes or face paint tomorrow please. Monday

Today in French we practiced asking How are you? and the different answers that there are to this question. On Wednesday I am asking the children to please leave the costumes and face paint at home. If you feel like dressing please dress black and orange. We will not be having a party but we will be watching a movie in the afternoon with another 4/5 class. Please just bring in an extra snack for yourself if you would like one. Book Fair

The school is having a book fair in the library from November 5-9. We are looking for parents to help take a shift to set up on Nov. 5, help to work the book fair on Nov. 6-8. And help to take down on November 9. If you are able to help any of these days with a short shift there is a sign up sheet just outside the office on the library wall. Thank you!

Thursday

We had a great day today even though it was a short one. The children all wrote a short story that we are going to work with tomorrow so that we can work on our editing skills. They also worked very hard on all of the different projects they have on the go right now. Wednesday

What an exciting day today was! Not only did we do our first practical life cooking project (apple strudel muffins) but it was also the day that 8 staff members (myself included!) took a pie to the face as the school surpassing the fundraising goal of $800 during the Terry Fox Run. Apple Strudel Muffins

Yummy! Today we made delicious Apple Strudel Muffins for practical life. Here is the recipe. Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup butter 1 cup white sugar 2 eggs 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla 1 1/2 cups chopped apples 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon butter Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 12 cup muffin pan. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In a large bowl, beat together butter, sugar and eggs until smooth. Mix in vanilla. Stir in apples and gradually blend in the flour mixture. Spoon the mixture into the prepared muffin pan. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Cut in butter until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over tops of mixture in muffin pan. Bake 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Allow to sit 5 minutes before removing muffins from pan. Cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!

Thursday

Today was a very busy day. We went down and helped our Kindergarten Buddies label the parts of a pumpkin. We are planning a field trip to the Pavilion Theatre on Monday November 5th at 10am. We would have to leave the school around 9:30. We are trying to see if we have enough drivers for this event or if we will have to book a bus. A field trip form will go home next week once we have a better idea if we will be able to have drivers or a bus. Homework this weekend: - home reading (read out loud one day to an adult) - mathletics - project work - any unfinished work from the week A reminder that there is no school tomorrow. Monday

It was a great day today. The children were on task in the classroom all day. We took part in DEAR at 11:00 this morning and all of the children were reading quietly during this time. We also looked at spelling the alphabet in sign language today. We are having spelling this week even though it is a short week. The dictation for the children will take place on Thursday instead of Friday. The year 4's are doing a continent study, the fives are looking at the different geographical regions of Canada and the year sixes are looking at the role the environment can play in culture and settlement.
