Thursday

Today was a good day. The children went and finished giving presentations to the other classrooms about the MS Read-A-Thon. Remember to start keeping track of your minutes of reading starting tomorrow until March 1! Wednesday

Today was the best work block day we have had in quite some time. All of the children were very focused on the work that they were doing and got a lot accomplished. This was also the first time our whole class has been here since December. It was nice to have everyone healthy back in the classroom! I had a chance to meet with all of the children today to discuss their Science Fair Projects. Many of them still need to make sure that they have their parent sign the first sheet and have it handed in signed to me by Friday. Tuesday

Today the Fine arts group looked at the composer Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. They were surprised to find that she was not able to write and be published because she was a woman. The children also practiced their presentations that they are going to be giving this week as our class is organizing the MS read-a-thon for the school. Monday

We had an amazing morning at Edith Lake this morning ice fishing. The children really loved it. We never caught anything, but still had a great time. We also had a presentation this afternoon from a parent from Mrs. Steenson's class. He came and shared pictures and stories from a 6 month world trip that he had taken with his son. It was a very interesting day in the classroom today with so many characters in here. :) It was a lot of fun seeing everyone's costumes. Please don't forget that we are going ice fishing on Monday and will be outside for 2.5 hours. Make sure that you dress for the weather! We had a lot of fun this afternoon looking at electricity and safe/unsafe situations. The students have a copy of the activity to challenge their parents to see if they can find all of the situations. Good luck! Monday

For a shorter day we sure got a lot of work done. The students had a lot of fun finding out if different materials in the classroom were conductors or insulators. A reminder that this week we are encouraging the children to unplug and play. There are many activities taking place around town this week to support this. Friday

It appears that I have double booked the children. The skating for February 4th has been changed as it does conflict that day with YPC. We will now be going on Feb 18th which is also a Monday from 9-10. Could you please let me know if you are able to drive on this day. We will be going ice fishing at Edith Lake on January 28th. A permission slip will come home on Monday. We will be taking a bus, but I would still love to have a few parents come with us if you are interested. Tuesday

After a day getting fixed we have our laptop back. It was a good day today. The fine arts group looked at the life of Haydn. In French we looked at writing with Il a and Elle a. The school has a few things happening right now. We are taking place in Heap the Honda this week. If you have any new or gently used books to donate, there is a table set up in the library. We are also collecting shoes for women and children in Nicaragua and these can also be brought in until Friday. Next Friday to support Family Literacy week we are having a dress up day at the school. We have asked the children to dress as their favorite character from a book. Tuesday

Today the students were able to choose their own spots to sit in the classroom. It seemed to work well so we will carry on with it for a while. The school is participating in the Heap the Honda book drive. If you would like to donate any new or "gently" used children's books you can bring them to the library the week of Monday Jan 14th to Friday Jan 18th. Last year over 12,000 books were distributed to a variety of community agencies and families in order to promote literacy. Monday January 7

Welcome back! By the sounds of things everyone has had a wonderful break! Today we slowly started to get back into the swing of things. I told the children that we will be participating in Science Fair in the next couple of months. I would like them to start thinking of an experiment to do for this assignment. I am just getting confirmation on when we are going to be having our school science fair and then I will be sending home information packages for this assignment.
