Wednesday

We started to put in the school garden today. Thank you to the year sixes for doing the weeding for us. This afternoon we had a presentation in the gym from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Jump Rope for Heart fundraising is coming home for those interested in taking part. Tuesday

Today we watched a puppeteer in the gym. The children really seemed to enjoy him and the message he sent. Coming home today are two notices. One on the track meet next Friday at the school, the other on the Human Growth and Development lessons that will start next week. Today we went to our final YPC of the year. It was a dancing troupe from Toronto showing a variety of Chinese dancing. Friday

Today was a fairly quiet day in the classroom. The children are all working on projects right now and are working on staying focused on their own work and not distracting others. We enjoyed having Wok Box for lunch today and a big thank you to the parents who organized that for the school. We also voted for our Red Cedar reading today. We are looking forward to finding out the award winners in May. Green Pea Vichyssoise

Portion size 8 Ingredients 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter 2 onions, chopped 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) chicken stock or vegetable stock 2 cups (500 mL) cubed peeled potatoes, (2 potatoes) 2 cups (500 mL) shelled fresh peas, (1-1/2 lb/750 g unshelled) 1 cup (250 mL) 10% cream or milk 1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt 1/2 tsp (2 mL) pepper Garnish: 1/2 cup (125 mL) snow peas, thinly sliced 1/2 sweet red pepper, finely chopped Preparation In large saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat; cook onions, stirring occasionally, until softened, 10 minutes. Add stock, 1 cup (250 mL) water and potatoes; bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add peas; simmer, covered, until peas are tender, 5 minutes. In batches, transfer to blender or food processor; pur?until smooth. Transfer to bowl. Blend in cream; stir in salt and pepper. Refrigerate until chilled, about 4 hours. (Make-ahead: Place plastic wrap directly on surface; refrigerate for up to 1 day.) Garnish: Ladle into bowls; garnish with snow peas and red pepper.

Unfortunately we were unable to go to KSV today. But we did have a lot of fun cooking in the community room! We made a yummy pea soup, I will post the recipe in a following post. I am trying to get a final head count together for Eagle Bay so if you can please let me know if you plan on attending. Final payments must be made in May before we go to the camp. Unfortunately tomorrow due to a lack of drivers we are going to have to cancel our visit to Kamloops Seniors Village. However, we will still be doing some cooking here at the school. I have invited the seniors that were going to come to participate to the school to still join us in our activity here, this will also be a chance for them to see our classroom at the school if they decide to join us here. Today each one of the children received a new novel study package. It is a large package and the due dates are broken down over the course of the next month. We are in need of drivers for our visit to KSV on Thursday. I am also looking for a couple of parents to help us do some food preparation there that day. If I do not receive any drivers or volunteers tomorrow I will have to cancel our visit. We had a lot of fun today. We had an Easter Egg hunt for our little buddies. We also had a clan activity this afternoon where we talked about filling peoples buckets. The grade 5/6 students had to interview each other in french this morning using intonation in their questions. If you are able to donate stuffed animals for the Panda Pitch game or cakes for the Cake Walks tomorrow they would be appreciated. All donations can be dropped off at the office. Congratulations to the children who took part in the Battle of the Books today. It was a nail biting afternoon and the children did very well tying for second and battling to finish in third. This morning in Fine Arts the children decided what roles they are going to try out for on Friday. Due to lack of interest certain roles in the plays have already been filled.
