Tuesday

Today the grade 4's wrote another FSA, today was writing.  They all seemed to enjoy writing about the topic they were given.  In our research block with Ms. Carter she taught us how to make a slide show using our google accounts.  They had a lot of fun with this.  Homework tonight:

 - Scholastic Due tomorrow
 - Ski forms for year 5/6 due tomorrow
 - tomorrow is Read Me Day and the students are encouraged to wear clothing with words on it (school appropriate please)

The grade 4's wrote their first FSA today.  These will continue daily for the week.  We also continued our look at what smoking does to your lungs.  We started with a little Reader's Theatre story about oxygen travelling through the body and are now looking at the effect that smoking can have on this journey.  Homework tonight:

 - study spelling (due to FSA's grade 4's do not have to do any spelling sentences this week)

Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow due to the professional development day. We had a great lesson with Mrs. Parker today.  She came in and talked with us about what it means to be present.   Thank you to those families who brought in donations for Heap the Honda.  Homework tonight:

We had a big talk in the classroom today about ways to show respect around the school.  I have seen a lot of silly behaviour taking place in the class lately and I have had to talk to many children multiple times.  Homework tonight:

Monday

Today we started talking about some of the first explorers who came to Canada.  We will continue to look into this later in the week.  I have asked the children to try and find a few names of early Canadian explorers.  Unfortunately many of the classroom materials are not being treated with care right now.  Shared supplies such as pencils, erasers and rulers are being broken.  Please discuss with your children the importance of taking care of shared materials.  Homework tonight:

We had a good day in the classroom today.  We worked on a challenging following directions activity but had a lot of fun with it.  We also did a comprehension cliffhanger, where I read the start of a story and they write the conclusion.  We have been talking all week about how to create a satisfying ending to your writing that follows the flow you have established and does not end too abruptly.  Homework this weekend:

Monday January 4, 2016

Happy New Year!  Today was a good first day back, a bit chatty but not as much as I expected.  Thank you to those who remembered their snow pants.  Please ensure that all children have their snow pants for tomorrow.  We are skating on Thursday morning, thank you to those parents who have volunteered to drive.  We are looking for a pair of boys skates in size 6 or 7 if anyone has a pair around the house.  If you have not already done so please have your child try on their skates so we can assist you in finding a size if needed.  Homework tonight:
