What a busy day.  Your little elves have been working hard today on holiday surprises.  Please make sure that all Secret Santa gifts are returned to the classroom for Monday.  We have some children who will not be here for all of next week and this way they can have their Secret Santa gift before they leave.

Tomorrow we go for our final skate of the year.  Please make sure that your child has their skates, helmet and appropriate clothing for skating in the morning.  We will be bringing some sticks from the school for the children to use if they would like, however, they must have a cage/face protector on their helmet for this to happen.

Today the students did another STEM challenge and had to construct a lunar lander that would keep their "astronauts" in from a fall of 30cm.  They had a lot of fun with this task and there were some very creative vehicles built.  Homework this weekend:

Today the remainder of the children shared their Ability Bags with the class.  This has been a wonderful way for them to get to know each other.  I loved the symbols that many of them chose to represent their abilities.  We met our little buddies today and they were so kind to them!  We also had our first fire drill today!  Busy day!  Homework this weekend is only home reading and making sure all verification/media forms are returned to the school.  Have a great weekend!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer.  I am so excited for the school year!  I will try to keep the blog updated daily this year.  Today we talked for a while about words.  We read the book, My Mouth is a Volcano! and did an activity with toothpaste.  We talked about how words can easily come out of your mouth (like toothpaste out of the tube) but like toothpaste, they are really hard to put back in.  A classroom newsletter should be coming home today.  Thank you to those who have sent in their school supply fees and to those who haven't please do so as soon as possible.  We are not using workbooks this year so you don't need to pay the $5 cost for that.  We have not received our agenda's yet, however once those come home if you could please write down your email.

Today the children helped to finish with the clean up from Friday's Jump Rope for Heart.  I was so proud of how helpful they all were in their service to the school.  Tomorrow we will be separating into groups and talking about the changes that take place during puberty.  Homework tonight:

It was so great to see so many of the students taking part in crazy hair day today.  So many of them looked like they belonged in a rock band!  A reminder that Monday is a Pro-D day and there is no school for the students.  For those who placed a Scholastic order they have been shipped and will hopefully arrive at the end of next week.  Congratulations to the students in our classroom who took part in the Battle of the Books District Competition yesterday.  I was so proud of the teamwork and positive attitudes that our students demonstrated.  Have a wonderful weekend, see you on Tuesday!

I have not written on the blog in a bit, but we have had some very fun things happening in the classroom.  Last week the students did a digestion experiment where we got to observe the first stage of digestion in our mouths with crackers.  Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Mr. Michel come into our classroom and talk to us about traditional foods and then we made bannock.  Art cards need to be returned to the school for tomorrow.  Homework tonight:

The year 4's completed the online portion of their numeracy FSA this morning.  They will complete a written question tomorrow.  I have been hearing wonderful feedback about how well the other children are working in other classrooms while I am administering the FSA's to the year 4 students.  If you have not done already please return your child's McQueen Lake field trip form by tomorrow and please return even if they are not planning on attending.  Even if the money is not handed in by tomorrow I need to know numbers.  Right now I only have 8 forms returned.  Homework tonight:

The children in year 4 worked on Numeracy practice today for FSA practice.  These practice tests can be accessed from our school website.  Today we used algorithms to create paper airplanes.  We learned that lots of things in life require following algorithms.  Also that we can have a different algorithm and still get to the same result.  On Friday the children will be starting to work on computers and will need their headphones to complete this.  Homework tonight:
