I can't believe how fast today went! Hard to believe only one more day left and we are into December! Homework tonight:

- study spelling (all children have the same cell science words this week)

- french games on line for 15 min. tonight, website of their choice

Tuesday

Brrrrr!!! Another cold day out there today. The children stayed in today and had fun playing games in the classroom at both recess and lunch. We started a multiplication unit today and had a class meeting where the children helped to pick topics for the next units in science, social studies and health. Homework tonight:

- study spelling (my apologies for some of the American spellings on the list, I usually try to catch them before putting the lists up. For these words I will accept American and/or Canadian spellings)
- mathletics

I understand that for spellodrome you need sound, if you don't have this, it is not a worry. It was a program that came with the mathletics that I thought the children might enjoy.

A good day today. We had lots of fun making dough bear ornaments with our little buddies this morning. Homework this weekend:

Thursday November 18, 2010

1/3 of the students did not have gym strip today. Can you please check with your child to make sure that they have gym strip in their locker and if they don't, that they please pack some. While on the subject of clothes the weather has turned cold so please make sure that your child is dressed to be outside at recess and lunch. I was pleased to see lots of warm coats, but gloves and hats are a good idea too. Tomorrow we are encouraging all of the students to wear pink for anti bullying week. Homework tonight:

Wednesday

The students will be having a parts of the microscope quiz on Friday to get their "Microscope License." They need to make sure they are spending the next couple of nights studying for this. Homework tonight:

Monday

We are one step closer to our SMART board today. The board itself was installed and now we just have to wait on the computer hook up. So exciting. I hope that your child was able to get everything home that needed to get there, we were not allowed in our room for the afternoon while the board was being installed. Homework tonight:

There will be no spelling this week as there are still many outstanding assignments and my priority is getting them in so that we can get first term all wrapped up. Have a good evening.

Carrot Cookies

Carrot Cookies (makes around 6 cookies)

Ingredients
1 tablespoon margarine
2 tablespoons sugar
1 to 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
4 tablespoons grated raw carrot
6 tablespoons self-raising flour (or plain flour with 1/2 teaspoon baking powder added)
1 tablespoon of water

Directions
Cream the margarine and the sugar together with the vanilla essence.
Beat in the grated carrot.
Fold in the flour. If mixture very dry then add a little water.
Drop spoonfuls onto greased tray and press down just a little.
Sprinkle tops with sugar and cook in an oven at 200 °C for about 20 minutes.

Friday

We did our first cooking activity today. We made carrot cookies from a wartime recipe. The children really seemed to enjoy them. For homework this weekend I asked the children to think about what they had coming up that was due, so some may be bringing home more than others. Also, if any had unfinished work outstanding I asked them to make sure that was turned in on Monday. Have a good weekend.

Wednesday

We had an amazing assembly today to celebrate Remembrance Day tomorrow. I hope that everyone remembers tomorrow to pause at 11:00 for a moment of silence and remembrance. Homework tonight:

- science test
- Year 4 projects due
- Eagle Bay $25 deposit due Monday
- mathletics and french web games (if they do not have a lot of other homework)

Tuesday

We got hooked back up to Mathletics today. I have asked all the children to have placed their log in names and passwords in the front of their agendas. This is something that they will have for the next year. Homework tonight:

Monday

As each of the years has a science quiz this Friday I have told the children that this week their home reading can be reading their science books to study. Homework tonight:

Home Access

A few children have been asking about getting a home access form to link their school accounts to their home computer. I have given some out but will post the information here as well in case they have gotten lost or need to be done again.

Install Free NX
1.This program works on Windows, Linux and some Mac's.
2.Open a web browser and go to http://www.sd73.bc.ca/download/
3.Download NX Client
4.Open the file that you just downloaded.
5.Click “Next”, “Next”, “Next”, “Install” and “Finish”. (you do not need to change anything)

Free NX is now installed.
Setup School Connection
1.Click “Start” => “All Programs” => “NX Client for Windows” => “NX Connection Wizard”
2.Click Next >
3.Type in the Session box: Aberdeen
4.Type in the Host box: vs1.aberdeen.sd73.bc.ca
5.Type in the Port box: 55557
6.Adjust the slide bar to match your home Internet connection. ADSL=Shaw; MODEM=dial-up
7.Click Next >
8.Click Next >
9.Check “Create shortcut on desktop”.
10.Click Finish.

You will now see a quick connect icon on your desktop.
Login to Aberdeen
1.Open the Aberdeen link on your desktop.
2.Type in your Login and Password that you use at the school.
3.Click Login

*** When you are finished your work, please remember to logout by clicking “K” => “Log Out...”
*** You may have to reboot your workstation after you install NX Client.

What a sticky way to end the week! I think the children all enjoyed watching myself and 8 other staff members take a pie to the face today because of the Terry Fox fundraiser. Homework today:

We had another good day today. The children all worked really hard and got a lot done. One thing that we worked on was Postcards for Peace. Each one of the children wrote a postcard thanking a veteran for their service for our country. We will be sending those off to Legions across Canada tomorrow. Homework tonight:

Wednesday

It was a fun day today. Being away yesterday no note went home to remind everyone that today was the class pizza party that we won for selling the most Entertainment Books in the school. Thank you to the PAC for providing pizza, juice and cupcakes! Yummy! Also we had a fun French lesson in the lab today learning about some websites that are available. Homework tonight:
