Friday

We have had a bit of a problem in the classroom lately with respect. The level of respect has gone down in many areas, mainly towards the classroom work environment. I have been talking with the children a lot this week about making sure that just because they have finished an assignment and have time to do a choice activity does not mean that everyone in the room is done and they need to respect the work environment. Many times when I am trying to talk or give a lesson children are also getting up to wander around the room, talking to a friend or are not paying attention. I know that the holidays are coming up and that the children are excited but this does not excuse the behaviour. Can you please reinforce this with your child at home this weekend. I appreciate your help with this matter. Homework this weekend: - home reading - reading response - unfinished WITW or Can. Reader maps - field trip Monday to Kamloops Seniors Village (make sure that you have a pair of inside shoes) - next week we skate on Thursday morning (please let me know if you need skates) Have a good weekend.

Friday

Well, even though we didn't go out on a field trip today, we had a fun virtual one in the classroom. The children started the day doing activities to acknowledge National Aboriginal Day. I then banded each of them with a "duck band" and we went online and they had to find out what kind of duck they were. Once they had that figured out we got into our "flock" groups and did even more activities. Looking at different pictures of animals and listening to sound clips to try and discover who we saw on our "field trip" to the "pond" today. It was a lot of fun and one student even told me that he thought that our in class field trip was even more fun than he thought the actual one was. Homework this weekend is just to read daily for 30 minutes. Have a great weekend. I can't believe that next week is our last one! A reminder that on Monday we will be back from our field trip closer to 3 as we are taking the city bus and have to rely on their schedule. If that time is a problem for you, you are more than welcome to come and pick up your child from the TCC pool at 2:10.

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Thursday

Due to the recent heavier than normal rains I might be cancelling the field trip tomorrow. I will wait to see if it continues to rain overnight and into the morning. My fear is that the rains have made the shoreline unstable and I do not want the children to fall in. Also I don't want softer ground to create a disruption of the habitat that we are going to explore. In the morning make sure the children are dressed for any weather and that they have on sunscreen a hat and have a water bottle with them. If the weather turns warm we will be playing in the water park and in the field while we are at the park so make sure they have a good lunch and a towel. Thank you!
